How our journey began
Our founder started Studio Y3 after years of working in construction and design-build as an opportunity to help others. She wanted to see the beauty and function of the spaces in which we live, work, and play. After years of witnessing some design teams lack the background in materials, function, and common sense in design, she wanted to do something. While she loved design and construction, her heart was calling her to Architectural design. Laura started her education in the 1980s going to school for Architecture, as she studied, she found the need to understand how things went together and changed her major to the construction end of architecture. Laura always knew she would go back to architectural design, when the time was right. Many years later, back in school, she realized that the relationships to the human element of architectural design was her passion. Working hard to understand the relationship to space planning, materials, and holistic design was critical to the way we interact with our spaces. While bringing the beauty and magic to all the spaces created was the recipe for a successful design firm. With her strong skills in design, construction, codes, and sustainability she established Studio Y3 Interior Design Group, LLC.

Refining 30 years of experience in construction and design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sustainable Interior Design, has been one of my proudest achievements in my career. I realized that the way to become an exceptional designer is to truly understand the art of design and the Human relationship with in the spaces. It was critical to study every aspect of design and art, as well as all aspects of Architectural design. I am still committed to learning every day and dedicated to the heart of architectural interiors and to the experience and beauty we can bring to the spaces we design.

What is the story behind that name?
People always ask why the Company is named Studio y3, and I love to explain it, and yet people may not want to hear all the details. If you do, here goes; the Company name originated from the love of the critical third. The Environment, Economics, and social responsibility. The crucial third in my life as my body, soul, and spirit, and in art, the golden ratio. The concept of PI and so on and so on. It gets crazy. Now the Y is the mathematical variable a holding place for something. We need to keep a place open for the unknown in everything we do. Understanding in life as in work, you must always be flexible and ready for anything, thus keeping a variable for the unknown is essential for me. Taking it to the 3rd is multiplying it..... Glad you asked.
